Gifted Programs and Advanced Exam Preparation

It’s common knowledge that students with skill gaps often slip through the cracks in a classroom setting—but did you know that accelerated students slip through the cracks as well? Unfortunately, advanced students often learn to slide-by, putting in minimal effort, and may even exhibit behavioral issues rooted in boredom. Exceptional students who excel in their studies may under-perform if their curriculum doesn’t challenge them—resulting in their full academic potentials going unrecognized or unchallenged.

For students who deserve an academic challenge, Above Grade Level of Chester County’s in-home tutoring offers gifted-student programs, SAT, ACT, and AP exam prep, and Keystone exam tutoring. These programs are specifically designed to challenge your gifted student’s skill levels and incorporate both advanced critical thinking skills and effective study strategies throughout.

“My ABOVE-GRADE TUTORING tutor made the biggest difference in my life. He taught me how to understand concepts and figure things out. I see other students struggling with that…but it now comes easily for me. Studying with my tutor was the best thing I could have done to prepare for college.”
                                                                                                                                                                      -S.F., Chester Springs

Advanced Tutoring at ABOVE-GRADE TUTORING of Chester County

Traditional classroom curricula are tailored to fit the educational standards of a median group of students at specific age and comprehension levels. Not all students fit into these cookie-cutter groups. Gifted students are able to master course material at a faster pace and deeper level. In addition, advanced students may become disinterested in a subject as the academic year progresses, frustrated by the slow pace of a class. Sadly, they may develop lazy work habits or poor study skills as a direct result.

Our goal at ABOVE-GRADE TUTORING is to rescue these students from slipping through the cracks! We challenge them to achieve their maximum potentials! We offer accelerated gifted-student and SAT-ACT-AP exam tutoring programs with these talented students in mind.

We teach academic skills at a higher level than the basic Common Core standards our schools’ curricula follow. We also incorporate critical-thinking and problem-solving skills into our students’ programs—essential skills that have been eliminated from most schools’ curricula.

We meticulously screen and hire tutors who are gifted themselves and understand the concerns of gifted students and their parents. Our dedicated tutors meet one-to-one with your gifted student to challenge, then stretch, their knowledge, comprehension, and application skills. We bring joy back into the learning process and give it real-life relevance for advanced students!

Free Diagnostic Skill Assessment & Custom-Designed Curriculum

It’s not uncommon for parents of gifted children to spend considerable time finding additional educational resources to keep their students challenged and motivated. With the special challenges of these students in mind, Above Grade Level of Chester County administers an international-standard, independently verified skill evaluation that reveals the strengths and comprehension levels of gifted students. From the results of the evaluation, together with a personal, in-home interview, we custom design a personalized learning plan for each individual student. The skill evaluation and learning plan are the foundation of our tutoring program, in conjunction with a $1.8 million proprietary curriculum that has taken over 30 years to develop and refine. This entire program comes right to your doorstep, where your gifted student can learn in the comfort and convenience of his or her own home.

Writing Workshops

Small group workshops are an ideal way to enrich learning and boost academic skills in a fun, low-stress, social atmosphere! There’s a lot of healthy “chemistry” that takes place in a workshop—and that benefits everyone. We interact together, collaborate together, learn together, and laugh together! Small group workshops are a wonderful opportunity to spend time with friends – or make new friends – while doing something that has long-term value and benefits!

Our workshops are simply awesome – taught by exceptionally talented and dedicated educators! Limited group sizes ensure personal attention. Got a group of 3 or 4 friends? Let us know, and we’ll put together a workshop for you!

WORKSHOP III: “Poetry & Creative Writing”

Whether your student is a math & science-whiz or a prolific writer, he or she will absolutely benefit from this workshop!!! STUDY SKILLS: Transforming students from students into scholars

What’s the difference between a student and a scholar?

  • A scholar recognizes the value in an education.
  • A scholar has a thirst for knowledge.
  • A scholar understands what he or she has learned.
  • A scholar can apply what he or she has learned to new and different situations.
  • A scholar can think, reason logically, and problem-solve.

Is your child a student…or a scholar?

Does your child study with cell phone in hand and YouTube playing in the background? Does he or she think “studying” means glancing over the teacher’s notes in homeroom the morning of the test? Does your child cram from a study guide the night before a big test? Does your child get low grades on tests and quizzes...even when they tell you they’ve studied?

We hear from parents almost daily, “My child doesn’t know HOW to study.”

Whether your student is a bright student or a struggling learner, poor study skills will impact his or her future success. Fortunately, effective study skills can be taught. ABOVE-GRADE TUTORING, we know how. Good study strategies bring the joy back into learning. They can turn a student into a scholar!

“I've been meaning to reach out to you to tell you how well [our daughter] is doing in Spanish class.  She has been excelling and feels confident with her studies and currently has a solid "A" in the class.  Thank you again so much for finding the perfect tutor for her, it was a great fit!”
                                                                                                                                                                    -M.S. Chester Springs

Our Process

Step 1

Comprehensive Diagnostic Skill Assessment

Students take a free comprehensive diagnostic skill assessment to identify their skill levels. They take this assessment online, right from home.

Step 2

Personal Consultation

We meet with the student and their family in their home for a free personal consultation to go over the assessment and identify the student’s goals.

Step 3

Personalized Curriculum

We custom-create a personalized curriculum that addresses the student’s skill gaps, as well as accelerates them where their skills are strong. No two students have the same curriculum! We always align tutoring to the topics the student is studying in school. Our program combines three areas of academic need: remediation of skill gaps; help with current school assignments; and a boost ahead in areas where students demonstrate readiness.

Step 4

Perfectly Matched Tutor

We carefully pair each student with a perfectly matched tutor, considering both skill levels and personality.
